Fusatsu and The Vow of Samantabhadra

Chanting of the Precepts will take place on February 25th and on March 11th and 25th. The Vow of Samantabhadra will be chanted on March 4th and March 18th.

  

 

Oryoki for General Students

On Saturday, February 21st, general students who attend the 6:00 a.m. formal sitting may participate in oryoki practice led by Jinmyo osho. Associate or visiting public students who are in retreat at the monastery on that day may also participate in oryoki.


Introduction to Zen Workshop at the Harrow Zazenkai
Ven. Saigyo chiden will be presenting an Introduction to Zen Workshop at the Harrow Zazenkai in England on Sunday, February 22nd at 2:00pm. For more information please write to info at wwzc dot org

 

Hermitage

The Roshi will begin a period of hermitage on Wednesday, March 4th, which will end at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 8th, when he leads monastics in Acalanatha Sadhana.

March Sesshin

The March two-day sesshin will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13th, and will end at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15th. On Saturday, March 14th, associate and general students may attend a sitting held in the Zendo. Arrival time is 9:15 a.m. (in time for First Bell). The sitting ends at 11:30 a.m. Students attending are reminded to remain on the first floor.

 

Keizan-ki

March 21st is the memorial for Keizan Jokin zenji.

 

Oryoki for General Students

On Saturday, March 21st, general students who attend the 6:00 a.m. formal sitting may participate in oryoki practice led by Jinmyo osho. Associate or visiting public students who are in retreat at the monastery on that day may also participate in oryoki.

 

Dharma Assembly

On Saturday, March 28th, Ven. Jinmyo Renge osho will lead a Dharma Assembly which will begin at 9:30 a.m. (please arrive by 9:15, in time for first Bell) and will end at 9:10 p.m. Dana is $40.00, which includes two meals: lunch and supper. Participants are asked to bring clothing and shoes appropriate for samu practice. To register, please send an email to schedule at wwzc dot org or leave a message on the office answering machine at 562-1568. Dharma Assemblies are open to all students.

The general sitting that would ordinarily take place from 9:30 to 11:40 on Saturday morning will be cancelled due to the Dharma Assembly.

On October 27, 2007, Ven. Jinmyo Renge osho led a Dharma Assembly during which she presented a Dharma Talk entitled "The Dragon in His Waters, the Tiger in Her Mountains", Part One of Three. Ven. Jinmyo Renge osho's Commentaries on Dogen zenji's "Fukanzazengi".

On Saturday, September 26th, Ven. Jinmyo Renge osho presented the Dharma Talk "Splat" during the Dharma Assembly that she led.


On December 8, 2007, Ven. Chunen ino presented a Dharma Talk entitled "Don't Waste Time" at Shukke Tokudo, when he was recognized as a taiko or monastic senior.

On December 8, 2008, Ven. Mishin tando presented a Dharma Talk entitled "What a Coincidence" during shukke-tokudo on the occasion of being acknowledged as a taiko or monastic senior.

On January 3, 2009, Ven. Shikai Zuiko osho presented "When Chewing on a Toothstick", Dharma Talk 41 in the series "Every Breath You Take": Ven. Shikai Zuiko osho's Comments on "The Practice of Purity": Book Eleven of the Avatamsaka Sutra Translated by Ven. Anzan Hoshin roshi and Ven. Shikai Zuiko osho.

 

On Saturday, January 24th, 2009, Ven. Jinmyo Renge osho presented "Standing Clear: Dharma Assembly".

 

On Thursday, January 29th, 2009, Ven. Chunen ino presented a Senior's Dharma Talk entitled "Taking Care".

On Saturday, January 31, 2009, Ven. Shikai Zuiko osho presented the 42nd Dharma Talk in the series "Every Breath You Take": Ven. Shikai Zuiko osho's Comments on "The Practice of Purity": Book Eleven of the Avatamsaka Sutra Translated by Ven. Anzan Hoshin roshi and Ven. Shikai Zuiko osho: "When Going to the Toilet".

The new format for our practice calendar is a .pdf file which includes the graphics of the printed version. 

If you are using Ubuntu Linux, the already available Evince Document Reader will open it automatically. If you are using another Linux distro (or have installed another reader in Ubuntu) there are many applications to choose from. 

If you are using a Microsoft OS you can use the Open Source application Foxit or if you prefer a proprietary program you can purchase Adobe Acrobat Pro or the component Acrobat Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded free from Adobe. (Foxit Reader's setup file is 1.67 MB, while the latest version of Adobe Reader is 22.3 MB.)

Sound Archives Site

The White Wind Zen Community Sound Archives site is a supplement to the White Wind Zen Community Website. Its purpose is to provide a large number of MP3 files of teisho, Dharma Talks, readings of translated classical texts, and chants for those who are practicing as students of Ven. Anzan Hoshin roshi. Currently there are about 94 sound files available.
      The site is divided into three password-protected sections for monastics, for formal students, and for general, associate and public students. For a catalogue of teisho and Dharma Talks available on the Sound Archives site, click here. Please contact Chunen ino at chunen@gmail.comfor the appropriate password.
      We also have a number of teisho and Dharma Talks recorded on audio cassettes which are available to the general public.
