Quotes from teisho are run sequentially in the eMirror

Dogen zenji again quotes Changsha and then comments.

"The ten directions are the body of this monk." [When Sakyamuni was born he] pointed one hand to the sky as sky and one hand to the earth as earth and said, "Beneath the heavens and above the earth I alone am the Generous One." This is the ten directions presencing as the body of a single monk. His head, eyes, nose, skin, flesh, bones, and marrow are the body of a monk liberated into the ten directions. There is nowhere outside of the universe for the universe to move. Independent of ideas about it, realize this monk's body as the ten directions, the ten directions as the body of this monk.

This whole bodymind with open eyes and open hands is wholly the ten directions and is completely the luminosity of the Buddhas. Everything that arises as the whole world arises within the wholeness of the world and the world is wholly the world. There is nowhere outside of space and space is wholly and completely space. The ten directions are in and as each direction, each word, each eye, each buttonhole, each bodymind. The bodymind is wholly the bodymind and is completely the ten directions.

Standing forth like this is being aligned with the presencing of the ten directions as this very bodymind. Then our hands point to sky and ground and to all directions simultaneously and we arise as Sakyamuni Buddha and as what is living as all beings.

-Ven. Anzan Hoshin roshi, continuing teisho 7: "Completely It" in the the teisho series "Five Fingers, Ten Directions: Commentaries on Eihei Dogen zenji's text 'Jippo'", presented Saturday, June 16th, 2001.

The main purpose of the Community is to provide a context in which the Transmission of the complete teachings, practice and realization of the Way of Dogen's Lineage of Zen can take place. To this end, the Zen Community provides a comprehensive and integral format of practice that is structured so that each student may practise in a manner that is appropriate for him or her.
